Project: Baseline Herpetological surveys for KLF Plantations.

Location: assorted Plantations in Kwazulu Natal and Mpumalanga Provinces, South Africa.

Client: Komatieland Forests  (KLF) C/O: Jan Huyser and Chris Foster.

Project Partner: Jerry Theron.

Task & implementation: Biovista conducted herpetofauna (reptile and amphibian) baseline assessments for the non-planted habitats of 7 of KLF plantations (exotic timber plantations): Berlin, Blyde & Belfast (2011) and Ngome, Roburnia, Uitsoek & Bergvliet (2013). Field surveys were done and then Biovista reported on the findings (incl. observed and expected specie lists, Red Data, endemics; impacts, threats etc.) and provided recommendations (e.g. adaptions to their burning program to reduce impact). KLF employs such studies as part of their commitment towards meeting FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) standards
