Project: Field assistant & Co-ordinator (on site) of Logistic and Scientific support towards the development of the Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary (VCWS) – a GEF/IFC project.
Location: San Sebastion Peninsula, off Vilanculos, Inhambane Province, Mozambique.
Client: VCWS Management.
Task & implementation: Assist all visiting specialists with field work towards the preparation of a management plan for the newly established Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary on the San Sebastion Peninsula – the prominentory to the Bazaruto Archipelago. Fieldwork consisted of a diverse spectrum of disciplines: Marine systems, freshwater systems, vegetation, avifauna, small mammals, herpetology, flora; carrying capacity assessment; game re-introduction assessment; designing monitoring & evaluation strategy; sustainable marine resource use; sustainable tourism and contribute towards the conservation incentive system.
